The Season of LentA New Offering: In recognition of the beginning of the 501st year after the Reformation, St. Paul’s Church and Shepherd of the Glen Church are partnering for worship and fellowship during the Lenten Season. Yes, we are going to be Lutherpalians for six weeks. Both Church congregations are invited to learn, worship and fellowship together, in the unity of Christ.

We pray you will participate in the six joint Lenten Programs starting February 14th, Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the solemn 40 days before Easter. Ashes from palms burned on the previous year’s Palm Sunday are placed on the altar and blessed. Using these ashes, the priest makes a cross on the foreheads of the congregants to signify humans as mortal.

Holy Week Schedule 2018

Palm Sunday, March 25, 9:00 a.m. service ~ Palm Sunday begins Holy Week. It is a time when we journey with Jesus to the Cross by experiencing Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem for the Passover festivities. The crowds welcomed Jesus with songs, Hosannas and palm branches. The service goes from a joyful tone to the dramatic reading of the Passion.

Maundy Thursday, March 29, 7:00 p.m. service ~ Maundy Thursday’s commemoration of the Last Supper Jesus had with his disciples and His mandate “to love as He loved” is demonstrated through Jesus’ washing His disciples’ feet. The service ends in silence as the altar is “stripped”, the aumbry, where the reserved sacrament is kept, is left empty and open. The aumbry candle which is always burning to signify the presence of Christ – is extinguished until the Easter Vigil or the first service of Easter.

Good Friday – March 30, 1:00 p.m. Ecumenical Service – Stations of the Cross held at St. Michaels Catholic Church, St. Michael’s Rd., Mt. Airy.
